ARTISTS:

Amanda Charchian – (Los Angeles / USA) - PHOTOGRAPHY

Amanda Charchian is an artist living and working in Los Angeles. While earning her BFA at Otis College of Art and Design, she began investigating the state of alienation through realms of the physical, psycho-social and spiritual human condition. Employing photography, sculpture and painting to transmit mystical experience into matter, her art practice is a means of communicating the subconscious sphere into objects; creating possible portals to ascend beyond known reality. Each medium functions in a different way as a response to these simulcasts, photography being the most immediate and sculpture more gradually revealing its mysteries.

Lucie Abdalian – (New York / USA) - MIXED MEDIA

Lucie Abdalian is a Lebanese born New York artist. She has exhibited all over the world. She finds her colors, inspiration and freedom in Armenia.  These series of collages are a philosophical question, answer and the misery of the relationship of a boy and his Oedipus complex.

“My subjects are people in my life I’ve encountered that are quite complex. When I paint them, I get to know them in a different realm, in their solitude portrayed on the canvas… trying to find out who they really are and what their secrets are…perhaps searching for them through their eyes without the intimidation of true eye contact…”

Danielle Williams – (Vancouver / Canada) - VIDEO

Lee is a writer, interdisciplinary artist, and performer working with communities toward social, political, emotional, and healing justice. She is a queer gender non-conforming feminist of mixed ethnicity and varying skin-tones. Lee is part of an idealistic faction of people who want things to be different in this world and believes they can be. Her focus currently revolves around identifying and naming systems of oppression; unlearning patriarchal programming; and recovering from trauma, addictions, and mental health issues caused by living in a disturbed capitalist nightmare. She agrees that change comes from the inside out and that stories are both what connect us and create where we might go together. She has a lot to learn and has spent a large part of her life lost in illusion. She is now waking up.

Trauma – the indefinable. The domestic. The public. The political. The current reality that we are all living through, in the east, west, north and south of this globe. It lives in moments and permeates the fabric of lives. It is the gap between language and understanding, and it is the silence that threatens to overwhelm all the chaos. It is brewing under the surface of our cultural realities, and a subconscious reality that exists whether we acknowledge it or not. Trauma has been my personal experience and the lens through which much of my work has been visioned. My journey has been one of reconciling the various personal traumas that I have endured, and my family before me, and my work has been a way of moving through the many spaces that have been left open like wounds. My work begins with my personal experiences and opens them up as stories – these stories are not just mine and are not just about me: they are examples and instances of much larger narratives that we share. I am particularly interested in silences. In the gaps between the unspoken. In the untold and unspeakable. In the missing narratives – as found in women’s voices, versions, and visions. Ultimately, however, my work is about love. It is about discovering languages of empowerment. It is about connecting with other people and finding ways to bridge distrust and anger with love. At this particular moment, I don’t have answers. I have many questions, and my works reflect that. They are incomplete works-in-progress that I share openly on this journey of learning and growing.
